Dumped Before Valentine's
A plaque near Lightman's "Dumped Before Valentine's" carries the quote, "I concentrate all my disappointment and hurt into the tight, sharp point of a pencil lead."
"Dumped" is one result. The triptych begins with a wide view of what she sees from her bench. It continues with the intervention of a call on her cell phone, and ends with the empty bench alone. The images reflect the changes in her emotional world, from being part of a relationship to being alone.
"The time it took you to look at the drawings is the time it took me to be dumped," Lightman says.
